Acting style and influences

It was screenwriter and film director Robert Rodriguez who famously stated that Tarantino hates actors. Indeed, many of his characters are simply fill-in roles for his stars, who then bask in an infusion of blood, bullets and banter. That approach has allowed Tarantino to reach certain level of cinematic artistry rarely seen in American cinema, with a deadpan yet droll style showcased by all of his films. Whether he is parodying spaghetti westerns (as he did in True Romance), casting top stars to play themselves (as he did in Pulp Fiction) or even creating a love story set against a gory backdrop (as he did in Death Proof), it seems that no one can escape his snarky charm.

Writing career

In May 1995, Tarantino received a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination for his work on Pulp Fiction. He lost to Oliver Stone (for Nixon). One of his notable works is Django Unchained, which has grossed over $425 million worldwide. It won two Academy Awards, including Best Original Screenplay for Tarantino and Best Supporting Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio. His latest movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood premiered at Cannes Film Festival 2019 and it was praised by critics. He is also preparing prequels about one of his most famous characters – Django! The film will be titled Django: A Star Wars Story, but no release date has been confirmed yet.
