Known as a world-class sprinter Usain Bolt (pronounced YOO-sin) was born on 21 August 1986 in Sherwood Content, Trelawny Parish Jamaica. The first name of his parents is Wellesley and Jennifer. His net worth was valued at US$45 million in 2012 but with endorsements continuing throughout 2016, he is likely to have earned a significant amount since then. He went on to win silver medals at 100 m and 200 m events at 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne. For every race he ran, he donated $100 to Jamaican Institute of Sports and received an award from Sportsworld magazine for champion of champions for charitable works that year. In 2007, he was awarded with an honorary doctorate degree from University of Technology (UTech) in Jamaica for his role as an ambassador in sports.

 

Retirement

Bolt announced in June 2018 that he would retire from athletics after World Championships held in London. He said he wanted to make it a memorable farewell by winning his final race, claiming another gold medal and breaking his own world record. However, on August 15, 2018, Usain Bolt retired from athletics without setting new records or winning another medal at the championships stating that although he still had ‘some track running left in me’, it was time for him to bow out on a high note.
